Guardian with concealed weapon accidentally shoots self whereas at Arlington ISD faculty, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the mother or father in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the dad or mum in the leg.

The school had early release and college students were released at the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In line with police, the guardian, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by accident shot himself. His injury was not critical.

The college district stated White was contained in the building, close to the lobby area, and not within the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and college officers mentioned there was no risk made and the mum or dad did not have "malicious intent."

No students or workers have been injured. The dad or mum was taken to an area hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

In the two days for the reason that Uvalde mass school shooting, there have been 5 instances in North Texas associated to weapons brought to varsities or threats made.

Arlington parents said their minds immediately thought of the worst after they had been notified.

No guardian ever needs there to be a reason for them to get a text message saying their kid's college is on lockdown.

However since this week's lethal taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot help but think the worst after they do.

"Once I obtained the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, one thing goes to happen.’ I was shocked," mother or father Karima Rasheed mentioned.

While most occasions, lockdowns are only drills students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, mentioned that knowing what happened earlier this week made this lockdown different. 

"I started seeing my classmates starting to cry and our instructor bought a notification on their phone saying someone was within the building," he stated.

Weapons are usually not allowed on school property, and fogeys FOX 4 spoke with said even if it was a mistake, the timing is just horrible.

"What are we going to do? They must go to high school, and clearly, statistically, it's unlikely to happen, however you by no means want to be the one statistic. What if it's your kids?" Matthew Mitchell said.

Mitchell lives across the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve acquired twin six-year-olds that go to a different Arlington faculty and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a school shooting, my heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to high school in the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever occurred at his college.

"If one thing happened, you’ve bought to run anyplace that’s safe and hide," she informed her little one.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too recent to talk politics, Mitchell stated one thing needs to be carried out now. 

"They wish to speak about it, they want to campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, however they don’t want to truly pass any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
