Mum or dad with hid weapon accidentally shoots self whereas at Arlington ISD college, police say

Arlington police stated Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a guardian with a hid weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the father or mother in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a parent with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the mum or dad within the leg.

The college had early launch and students had been launched on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

According to police, the father or mother, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His damage was not critical.

The school district mentioned White was contained in the constructing, near the lobby space, and never within the hallway near students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officials mentioned there was no menace made and the mother or father did not have "malicious intent."

No students or staff had been injured. The father or mother was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

In the two days because the Uvalde mass school capturing, there have been 5 cases in North Texas associated to guns introduced to varsities or threats made.

Arlington dad and mom mentioned their minds immediately considered the worst after they have been notified.

No mum or dad ever wants there to be a purpose for them to get a text message saying their child's faculty is on lockdown.

But since this week's deadly shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not assist but assume the worst after they do.

"After I acquired the text message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, something goes to occur.’ I used to be shocked," parent Karima Rasheed said.

Whereas most instances, lockdowns are solely drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, mentioned that knowing what happened earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our teacher received a notification on their phone saying somebody was in the building," he stated.

Weapons are not allowed on faculty property, and oldsters FOX 4 spoke with stated even when it was a mistake, the timing is simply horrible.

"What are we going to do? They should go to school, and obviously, statistically, it's unlikely to occur, but you by no means need to be the one statistic. What if it's your youngsters?" Matthew Mitchell said.

Mitchell lives throughout the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington faculty. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve acquired twin six-year-olds that go to a different Arlington college and each time I hear there is a lockdown or a school shooting, my heart jumps into my throat," he mentioned.

Rasheed said Thursday was the commencement day for sixth grade students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to school within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his school.

"If something happened, you’ve bought to run anywhere that’s secure and conceal," she informed her little one.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is too recent to talk politics, Mitchell said one thing needs to be carried out now. 

"They wish to speak about it, they wish to campaign on it, they need to fundraiser on it, however they don’t wish to really pass any laws and do something," he added.
