On-line diary: Buffalo gunman plotted assault for months

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The white gunman accused of massacring 10 Black individuals at a Buffalo grocery store wrote way back to November about staging a livestreamed assault on African Americans, practiced shooting from his automobile and traveled hours from his dwelling in March to scout out the shop, in accordance with detailed diary entries he seems to have posted online.

The author of the diary posted hand-drawn maps of the grocery store along with tallies of the variety of Black individuals he counted there, and recounted how a Black safety guard at the grocery store confronted him that day to ask what he was up to. In livestreamed video of the attack circulating on-line, the gunman trained his weapon on a white person cowering behind a checkout counter, but stated, “Sorry!” and didn’t shoot. Screenshots purporting to be from the printed appear to point out a racial slur towards Black people scrawled on his rifle.
