Mike Tyson won’t face fees in altercation with JetBlue passenger, district legal professional says

A California district lawyer declined to file charges Tuesday towards former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a bodily altercation with another passenger on a JetBlue flight.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe made the decision after having reviewed police studies and movies of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no prices be filed.

"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Legal professional’s Office concluded its evaluate of the case involving Mike Tyson on the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he committed a misdemeanor battery against one other passenger on an airplane while ready on the terminal previous to departure," Wagstaffe stated in an announcement.

"Our choice is that we will not file any prices against Mr. Tyson primarily based on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embrace the conduct of the victim main as much as the incident, the interaction between Mr. Tyson and the victim, as well as the requests of each the victim and Mr. Tyson that no prices be filed in this case," Wagstaffe mentioned.

The case is now closed.

Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, appearing to attempt to punch somebody who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson mentioned the person was harassing Tyson. The video did not present what happened before the altercation.

David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the choice to not file costs by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and law enforcement businesses "for his or her careful, diligent, and professional work."
