Guardian with hid weapon unintentionally shoots self while at Arlington ISD faculty, police say

Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a concealed weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the parent in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a concealed weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the guardian in the leg.

The college had early launch and college students were released on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In accordance with police, the guardian, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His injury was not severe.

The varsity district said White was contained in the constructing, near the lobby area, and not in the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and school officials stated there was no threat made and the mother or father didn't have "malicious intent."

No students or workers had been injured. The parent was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones mentioned after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days since the Uvalde mass college taking pictures, there have been 5 instances in North Texas related to weapons brought to varsities or threats made.

Arlington mother and father stated their minds instantly thought of the worst after they have been notified.

No mum or dad ever desires there to be a cause for them to get a text message saying their child's college is on lockdown.

But since this week's deadly capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot assist however think the worst once they do.

"Once I acquired the textual content message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, one thing is going to occur.’ I was shocked," mother or father Karima Rasheed said.

While most occasions, lockdowns are solely drills college students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that figuring out what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I started seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our teacher bought a notification on their cellphone saying somebody was within the constructing," he said.

Mitchell lives throughout the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve got twin six-year-olds that go to a special Arlington school and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a college capturing, my heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the commencement day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to school in the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever happened at his school.

"If one thing occurred, you’ve received to run wherever that’s safe and hide," she told her baby.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too fresh to talk politics, Mitchell said one thing must be executed now. 

"They wish to speak about it, they need to campaign on it, they need to fundraiser on it, however they don’t wish to truly cross any legal guidelines and do something," he added.
