A California district lawyer declined to file fees Tuesday against former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a physical altercation with one other passenger on a JetBlue flight.
San Mateo County District Lawyer Steve Wagstaffe made the choice after having reviewed police studies and movies of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been recognized, and Tyson requested that no expenses be filed.
"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Workplace concluded its overview of the case involving Mike Tyson at the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he committed a misdemeanor battery in opposition to one other passenger on an airplane whereas waiting at the terminal previous to departure," Wagstaffe mentioned in a statement.
"Our choice is that we'll not file any costs against Mr. Tyson primarily based on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embrace the conduct of the sufferer leading up to the incident, the interaction between Mr. Tyson and the sufferer, as well as the requests of both the sufferer and Mr. Tyson that no fees be filed in this case," Wagstaffe stated.
The case is now closed.
Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, showing to attempt to punch somebody who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson said the person was harassing Tyson. The video did not show what happened earlier than the altercation.
David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the choice to not file costs by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and regulation enforcement businesses "for his or her careful, diligent, and professional work."
