A fifth grade scholar in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a textual content message threatening to hold out a mass capturing, authorities said.

In an announcement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Workplace mentioned it had discovered earlier that day of a "threatening text message" sent by a pupil at an elementary school.

It mentioned its native college risk enforcement team was immediately notified and began investigating. The ten-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written risk to conduct a mass shooting," the sheriff's office stated.

In video shared by authorities, the boy can be seen being led into a police vehicle.

“This scholar’s conduct is sickening, especially after the current tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated in a press release, noting that the menace got here simply days after the lethal faculty shooting at Robb Elementary Faculty left 19 college students and two academics lifeless.

“Right now isn't the time to behave like a little bit delinquent. It’s not humorous,” he mentioned. “This child made a fake risk, and now he’s experiencing actual consequences.”

Marceno mentioned his crew “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to analyze the incident.

The remark came as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the May 24 faculty shooting after it got here to light that they waited roughly an hour for backup as an alternative of instantly shifting in on the gunman.
