Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech large mentioned its iconic music player has been replaced by other devices, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising, said: "Immediately, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We have integrated an incredible music experience throughout all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with support for spatial audio - there is not any higher solution to get pleasure from, uncover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the original iPod and it was the primary MP3 player that could hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new class of digital music player that allows you to put your complete music assortment in your pocket and listen to it wherever you go," he mentioned on the time.
