Mike Tyson will not face charges in altercation with JetBlue passenger, district lawyer says

A California district attorney declined to file charges Tuesday towards former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a physical altercation with another passenger on a JetBlue flight.

San Mateo County District Legal professional Steve Wagstaffe made the decision after having reviewed police stories and movies of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no costs be filed.

"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Legal professional’s Workplace concluded its evaluation of the case involving Mike Tyson at the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he dedicated a misdemeanor battery in opposition to another passenger on an airplane while ready on the terminal prior to departure," Wagstaffe said in a press release.

"Our choice is that we'll not file any expenses in opposition to Mr. Tyson based mostly on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These include the conduct of the sufferer leading up to the incident, the interplay between Mr. Tyson and the victim, as well as the requests of each the victim and Mr. Tyson that no prices be filed on this case," Wagstaffe mentioned.

The case is now closed.

Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, appearing to try to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson mentioned the person was harassing Tyson. The video did not show what occurred earlier than the altercation.

David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the choice to not file prices by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and legislation enforcement businesses "for his or her careful, diligent, and professional work."
